Just a pen and ink of a whale.
Done with traditional pen and ink from a previous sketch. Submission to SCBWI bulletin.
Quick illustration for Illustration Friday Challenge “wings”.
Created in Corel Painter using the basic pencil tool and a little of the pen and ink tool. I usually do my sketching in some other color than black. It is a habit I still use when I am doing traditional sketches and do some of my under-drawing with col-erase pencils.
Hope you like.
This is a digital sketch using Corel Painter and the Pen tool. I am amazed at how quickly and easily I can render something that looks so much like traditional pen and ink in a digital format.
I did use a Cintiq for this, and found that I am able to get a wide range of pressure sensitive strokes.
Created the sketching in sketchbook pro. Took the sketch into Corel Painter. Added color.
Just an idea for a character in a children’s book.
This picture was a runner up for the 2013 Tomie dePaola award from SCBWI.
Here is the quote from Tomie dePaola:
I am very excited to receive this honor and it was incredibly fun to do the illustration. I used traditional pen and ink and Arches hot press watercolor paper.
SCBWI Boot Camp with presenter Mary Kole and Anita Nolan.
The workshops were informative and I came away with fresh approaches for my character and story, and hopefully a better pitch.
I found the critique with Ariel Colletti insightful, and I will be taking her advice in shaping my story.
The venue at The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen was great. What an amazing building.
Thanks SCBWI. Great program.
